Eastern Thessaloniki has been experiencing significant architectural growth in recent years. Residential complexes continue to accommodate a growing population relocating permanently to the area.
In this expanding urban landscape, specifically on Chatzidaki Street in Thermi’s extension, on plot G129 with a total area of 1,298 sq.m., we have designed a new residential complex. This project consists of a six-apartment building, a two-maisonette building and an independent maisonette. The interplay of solid and void, mass and lightness, gives the facades a rich architectural quality and plasticity, making the complex stand out from its neighboring structures. This distinct morphology is further enhanced by a careful selection of materials that accentuate the geometric clarity of the volumes. Exposed brick, polished concrete, and black metal elements create a harmonious yet distinctive final composition. Additionally, the curved elements on the balconies and vertical structures soften the sharp angles, lending a more welcoming character to the building’s facade.
At the ground level, pedestrian entrances lead to two central stairwells and the entrance to the maisonette. A ramp provides access to a spacious underground parking area with ample auxiliary spaces. Each ground-floor residence enjoys its own private green space, while the maisonette benefits from the added feature of a private swimming pool. The eight apartments in the main building are symmetrically arranged, with six positioned on either side of the stairwells and two centrally located between them. The latter are duplex apartments spanning two levels, offering not only a private courtyard on the ground floor but also a mezzanine and a spacious rooftop area.
The choice of materials, the large openings strategically positioned for optimal orientation, and the extensive greenery—both in the landscaped surroundings and on balconies and pergolas—contribute to a bioclimatic approach. This design ensures the building aligns with modern living standards, offering a sustainable and comfortable residential environment.
